List
Rules
(aka Stuff You Can Be Moderated For)
1) All "off topic" posts must be designated as such by having {OT} in the Subject Line.
a) A post is considered "off topic" if it falls outside of the SDGoth members list mission statement: "The purpose of the list is to provide a forum for people to discuss the San Diego goth, industrial and underground scene." The following categories are *always* considered "off topic":
1) religion/spirituality
2) current events/news/politics
3) poetry & artistic expression
4)"for sale"/auction postings
Properly marked {OT} threads will be moderated under the same rules as on topic threads. A thread will be terminated if it develops into a violation of one of the List Rules (ie. flame war/personal attack), the moderators have received three or more separate, valid member complaints or if a moderator determines it has become disruptive to the list.
2) One-line original posts are allowed. HOWEVER, consecutive one-liners that become disruptive to the list are not. If they do, a moderator can issue warnings.
3) One-line RESPONSES to posts are allowed AS LONG AS a quoted reference from the email that is being responded to is included to give the one-liner some context.
4) Website URLs are allowed to be posted until they become disruptive in their frequency. This is at the moderator's discretion.
5) Private conversations are NOT allowed. A "private conversation" is defined as "any conversation in which the context is, or develops into, existing only between two (2) people." For example: John makes a post to the list. Jane responds to John. John then responds solely to Jane. It is at this point that a private conversation is said to have developed. Private conversations should be done off list, and if one develops on list, the participants will be asked to take it off list and warned.
6) Attachments are NOT allowed on the list.
7) Commercial/Merchant email is allowed on the list only if it is on topic. "For Sale" and auction postings by members are allowed if {OT} is included in the subject line. All other such unsolicited commercial email is considered spam for the purpose of this list. Any person posting spam to the list will be given one warning and then banned on the next offense.
8) Event Announcements - All event announcements, regardless whether the source is a list member or not, promoter or not, must adhere to the following guidelines:
a) All event announcements must be sent to events@sdgoth.org. No event announcements may be posted directly to the list.
b) San Diego County - Limited to one (1) post per day, per event.
LA/Orange County - Limited to one (1) post per week, per event.
The rest of the world - NOT allowed.
c) The number limit is per event, NOT per person who submits it.
d) Updating information (change of time, venue, etc) for an event does not fall under the 1 per day/week, per event limitation.
9) Engaging in "identity fraud" or ANY illegal activity, including the solicitation of, will result in an instant banning from the list.
10) Signature files are bound to the following restrictions:
a) Signatures can be a MAXIMUM length of 4 lines long.
b) A line is defined as having anywhere from 0-80 characters.
11) Personal attacks are NOT allowed. Forwarding to the list a private email from an individual without that person's permission falls under this category. Flames and flame wars also fall under this category. If a person engages in a personal attack, they will be given one warning and the next offense will result in banning.
12) Trolling is NOT allowed. The definition of trolling for this list is:
"Trolling in the Internet sense is when somebody posts inflammatory messages designed to stir up trouble on a list or newsgroup. The sole purpose of the troll being to garner attention and hijack the forum from its normal function."
Persons who are found to be trolling will be given one warning, and then permanently banned from the list.
13) A moderator may issue a public "cease and desist" notice to the members list regarding a thread that has deemed to be a flame, troll, personal attack, private conversation, killed by an appropriate number of member complaints or is otherwise disruptive to the list. Once a "cease and desist" notice has been posted, any further discussion of the topic is prohibited. Anyone who continues to the topic after that public notice can be issued a warning.
14) All list posts are to be considered private correspondence. Permission of all contributing parties must be obtained before forwarding a post to a third party.
15) Warnings and punishments attach to the person, not the email account. For example, if a member has multiple accounts subscribed and is suspended for one account, they are suspended for all. Also, if a person has one 2 strike warning (say for trolling) under one email account and another 2 strike warning (also for trolling) under a different account, they do count together to result in banning. Unsubscribing and resubscribing under a new email account does not get rid of previous warnings, nor does it negate a banishment. If a person is banned from the SDGoth members list, that banishment is permanent. If a banned listee reappears on the members list under a different email account, the moderators can summarily ban that new account.
